Dr. Pham is a graduate of George Washington University, where he earned a BS degree in electrical engineering. He also earned MSE and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from Johns Hopkins University. He received both pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training at the National Institute on Aging, where he was honored with the Fellow's Award for Research Excellence. Before joining the Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine (CNRM) and NIH, he was a Neuroradiology faculty member with Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Pham retains adjunct appointments with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Department of Radiology at Johns Hopkins University. He also holds an appointment with Uniformed Services University Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences.

Dr. Pham is currently the director of the Image Processing Core for CNRM. His research interests include image processing and computer vision with application to biomedical imaging. He is particularly interested in the development and application of image analysis algorithms using stochastic and variational models for the quantitative assessment of traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, and other neurodegenerative diseases. His expertise within the field of medical image processing has led to invitations to write chapters and review articles for the Annual Review of Biomedical Engineering, the Handbook of Medical Imaging from SPIE Press, the Handbook of Medical Imaging from Elsevier, and IEEE Signal Processing Magazine.
