Dr. Shreya M. Kanth is a Staff Clinician in the Critical Care Medicine Department at the NIH Clinical Center.


Dr. Kanth received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University with acceptance to the Guaranteed Admission Program for medicine, and subsequently received her medical degree from University of Virginia School of Medicine.

After completing residency training in Internal Medicine at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, she completed fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine at the NIH along with Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine fellowship training at University of Maryland. She was subsequently appointed as Staff Clinician in the Critical Care Medicine Department at the NIH in 2021.

Dr. Kanth has a primary research interest in the cellular and molecular pathogenesis of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).

Currently, she is investigating the novel role of semaphorin 5A (SEMA5A) in translational models of endotoxin-induced lung injury. Additionally, she is actively involved in a clinical research protocol evaluating the natural history of patients who have recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection.
