Department of Clinical Research Informatics
Students and Visitors
The Department of Clinical Research Informatics (DCRI) offers of variety of educational and training programs for students, visitors, and NIH employees related to clinical informatics, scientific computing, and computer applications.
DCRI provides opportunities for students to explore our research environment in clinical informatics and/or scientific computing through the following:
Summer Internship Program
Summer internships are available for undergraduate, graduate, and PhD level students with an interest in clinical (medical or nursing) informatics and scientific computing. Students will work in an environment that uses a multidisciplinary team approach to develop and implement complex systems. Students will engage in activities based on their knowledge and interests with an emphasis on the research methodology. Examples of past research projects include:
Clinical (Medical/Nursing) Informatics
- Evaluating the Usability of a Visual Display for Interdisciplinary Problem Documentation Among Clinicians
- Design Efficiencies and Satisfaction of Computerized Physician Order Entry: A Comparison of Two Order Entry Methods
- Evaluation of Computerized Order Entry (CPOE)
- Evaluation and Use of Wireless Technology
Applications for the Summer Internship program must be submitted by March 1 of each year. Details about this program and how to apply can be found at http://www.cc.nih.gov/training/students/summer_internships.html.
DCRI offers practical experience in clinical informatics, project management, system analysis, design, and implementation related to health care technology to meet degree requirements. Activities focus on meeting course objectives and other interests of the student. Contractual agreements can be arranged by contacting CC-DCRI Student Practicum.
Groups interested in learning about the Clinical Research Information System (CRIS) can schedule a tour of the Department of Clinical Research Informatics by contacting email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
