Multi-level Parking Garage 9, on west side of Clinical Center, under renovation through October

Marked in red, you will see the MLP-9 Repairs location and the Lot 42 that will be opening.

Beginning on Saturday, June 1 and continuing through October 2019, the 1,260 space MLP-9 Parking Garage will undergo major renovations to address deterioration of concrete flooring and other structural issues. These urgent repairs will commence in a phased approach to minimize the impact to employees, starting with the top floors. The garage itself will not close. No more than 116 – 138 spaces will be unavailable at any one time. Work will also take place on weekends to expedite the repair schedule.

Inside of MLP-9, construction areas will be clearly marked. Flagpersons and signage will assist vehicles navigating around work zones. Alternate handicap, Blood Bank and Reserved Parking spaces will be provided within MLP-9 once existing spaces come under repair.

Fortunately, Lot 42, a new parking lot, will also open on June 1. Lot 42 restores 257 parking spaces previously lost during the construction of the Industrial Water Storage System (IWSS), i.e. the water tank on the southwest corner of campus. Lot 42 is open to all employees with parking permits.

Starting Monday, June 3, the Campus Route – Red Line will add a new shuttle stop servicing Lot 42. Both the Campus and Campus Limited – Purple Line shuttle routes also service Lot 41.

During MLP-9 repairs, the NIH realizes there will be an overall shift in parking availability, particularly on the western side of campus. Vehicles will likely need to move south to find available parking. Employees who would otherwise park in MLP-6 or MLP-8 might consider using Lot 41 or Lot 42 to help displaced MLP-9 customers.

The Office of Research Facilities and the Office of Research Services appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete these repairs to the MLP-9 parking garage.
