Clinical Center honors staff clinician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant and administrator of the year
In October, the Clinical Center honored four employees for their outstanding clinical excellence and compassion in the care of patients at the NIH Clinical Center. Dr. Douglas Rosing, head of the NIH National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's Cardiac Consultation Service, was named Staff Clinician of the Year, Elise Ferré, with the NIH National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was named Physician Assistant of the Year and Ruth Parker, of the CC Pediatric Consult Service, was named Nurse Practitioner of the Year. A new category, Administrator of the Year, was awarded to Maureen McDonnell, of the CC Office of Workforce Management and Development.
This marks the second year of the prestigious awards, given by the Clinical Center Clinical Recognition Program. While typically only one Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant of the Year would be chosen - there was a tie this year by the Clinical Center Clinical Recognition Committee. Staff Clinician of the Year
Dr. Douglas Rosing, NHLBI

"He excels at bridging the divide between bench and bedside by bringing the clinical and patient care perspective into all research questions. He initiates thoughtful and useful discussions which includes bringing the conversation back to practical suggestions for complex cases. Dr. Rosing stands out because he is also a leader in both research and education. He emulates respect and thoughtfulness in his interactions with patients, fellow providers and staff. He serves as a mentor to medical students and fellows from the US and around the world, helping to train the next generation of physicians and scientists."
Physician Assistant of the Year
Elise Ferré, NIAID

"I cannot think of any other Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who epitomizes best the ideals of compassionate patient care, collaboration, work ethic, intelligence and excellence. Elise has been the driving force for the enrollment, clinical care, regulatory support and clinical research conducted in [more than] 400 complex patients with primary immunodeficiencies and healthy volunteers. Our patients and their families speak glowingly of her. She has contributed tremendously and in an outstanding manner in our clinical and research program at NIAID."
Nurse Practitioner of the Year
Ruth Parker, CC

"Ruth has made tremendous contributions to clinical care and patient safety at the NIH. She excels in patient care, research, teaching, and quality improvement. Her outstanding care is matched by her work ethic and drive. Ruth is a member of the Pediatric Consult Service and participates in over 200 consults each year on pediatric patients with complex conditions. Multiple institutes rely on her for advice and many of her NP and PA colleagues use Ruth as a resource in caring for pediatric patients."
Administrator of the Year
Maureen McDonnell, CC

"Mo [is] the primary trainer for the entire Clinical Center. Many other Institutes and Centers have entire offices that do the work that Mo does, but she manages to provide trainings and services to all 2000 Clinical Center staff, in addition to managing the award-winning Clinical Center Orientation. She is always willing to assist anyone that asks, from the smallest of questions, to fully a designing a new training program. Mo embodies the meaning of true dedication to the NIH Clinical Center mission."
