Former Astronaut talks patient safety – "It's not rocket science"

Former Astronaut Dr. James Bagian was the Contemporary Clinical Medicine: Great Teachers Lecture series speaker in December.
Former Astronaut Dr. James Bagian captured the imagination of an NIH audience Dec. 13 as a special guest speaker for the Contemporary Clinical Medicine: Great Teachers Lecture series. Bagian provided a unique perspective on patient safety with a compelling discussion, titled "Patient Safety, it's not Rocket Science." Among his many accomplishments, Bagian is a board member of the National Patient Safety Foundation, a member of the Trauma and Injury Subcommittee of the Department of Defense Health Board, and serves on the Board of Governors of "The Doctors Company". He was also elected to two terms as the Chair of the Joint Commission's Patient Safety Advisory Group. Currently, he is the Founding Director of the Center for Healthcare Engineering and Patient Safety and is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan.
